Background The Alpha variant of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7) was first identified in the United Kingdom in December 2020, and cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage have been reported in many countries including the United States, Canada and Japan. The number of its infections has increased rapidly worldwide. Some studies have pointed out that the B.1.1.7 mutant strain increased its binding affinity to human ACE2 receptor by 1000 times, and its infectivity was 1.7 times that of the original strain. It was considered as a variant strain requiring attention by WHO and CDC, and the key mutations in S protein were E484K, N501Y and P681H. The pseudovirus can be used to infect cells overexpressing ACE2. This pseudovirus has no self-replication ability, and has the characteristics of high safety and operability.
