Background | The macrophage stimulating protein receptor (MSP R), also known as RON, is a receptor protein tyrosine kinase of the met/hepatocyte growth factor receptor family. Binding of the macrophage stimulating protein to its receptor provokes changes in cell morphology and motility. Suppressing RON expression and activation decreases cancer cell proliferation and increases apoptotic death. Thus, blocking RON expression and activation has clinical significance in reversing malignant phenotypes and controlling tumor growth. |
