Background | Ephrin-A4 is a glycoinositol phospholipid membrane anchor containing ephrin found in variety of adult tissue such as kidney, lung, colon and ovary. Ephrin-A4 is a ligand for the erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular (Eph) receptor family of tyrosine kinases. Based on their structures and sequence relationships, ephrins are divided into the ephrin-A (EFNA) class, which are anchored to the membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage, and the ephrin-B (EFNB) class, which are transmembrane proteins. Ephrin-A4 encodes an EFNA class ephrin. Ephrin-A4 (s) may play a role in the interaction between activated B lymphocytes and dendritic cells in human tonsils. |
