Gi24 (Gene ID:64115), also known as CEACAM19 (carcinoembryonic antigen-associated cell adhesion molecule 19) or TSPAN29 (Tetraspanin 29), encodes a cell surface protein. It belongs to the family of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) proteins, which are involved in a variety of cellular processes including immune modulation and cancer. Gi24 was originally identified as a gene highly expressed in gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers. Although its exact function was initially unknown, subsequent studies have revealed its role in cancer biology and immune regulation. The gene function of Gi24 is as follows: Gi24 is overexpressed in several types of cancer, including colorectal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers. Its expression correlates with tumor progression and unfavorable prognosis. Gi24 can promote cancer cell growth, invasion and metastasis. Additionally, It may lead to immune evasion by interfering with the functionality of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. Gi24 exhibits immunomodulatory properties through its interaction with immune cells, such as T cells and dendritic cells, to regulate immune responses. In some cases, Gi24 is able to inhibit T cell activation and proliferation, potentially suppressing anti-tumor immune responses. Gi24 is associated with angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. It can affect the adhesion and migration of endothelial cells, contributing to the development of vascular networks within tissues, including tumors.
