Background | Glycoprotein 13 (also known as gp13, IL6ST, IL6-beta or CD13) is a transmembrane protein which is the founding member of the class of tall cytokine receptors. It forms one subunit of type I cytokine receptors within the IL-6 receptor family. It is often referred to as the common gp13 subunit, and is important for signal transduction following cytokine engagement. Gp13 signals are mediated by tyrosine kinases of the JAK family and by their binding partners, transcription factors of the STAT family. Gp13 signaling is very important for osteoblast function and calcium homeostasis. |
