Amyloid beta (Aβ) and the highly phosphorylated tau protein (p-tau) are two widely studied biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Aβ is A small molecule polypeptide produced by enzyme digestion of a large precursor protein (APP). In Alzheimer's disease, abnormal Aβ accumulates to form plaques that deposit in the brain and are associated with declining cognitive function and nerve cell death. Aβ was detected by ELISA, Western blot and immunohistochemistry. These techniques can be used to determine Aβ levels in blood, cerebrospinal fluid or tissue samples to help diagnose Alzheimer's disease at an early stage.
Highly phosphorylated tau protein
Mechanism of action of highly phosphorylated tau protein (p-tau) : tau protein is a microtubule binding protein in nerve cells and is involved in the stabilization of microtubules. In neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, tau protein is abnormally phosphorylated, leading to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles, which in turn affect the function and survival of nerve cells. p-tau is usually detected using ELISA, Western blot, or immunohistochemical techniques. These methods can accurately detect p-tau levels in cerebrospinal fluid or tissue samples, providing important information for the diagnosis and monitoring of Alzheimer's disease.
