Cell STR Identification Services

KMD Bioscience is an expert in cell biology and we offer specialized STR analysis to help validate cell lines. Continuous cell lines have been widely used as models for biomedical research for more than 50 years. With the rapid growth of cell use in different areas, the potential risk of cross-contamination of cell cultures is gradually increasing. Cross-contamination between cultured cell lines and misidentification of cell lines are persistent problems, occurring between 16% and 35%. When customers experience a number of problems, including: recovery of cells that have been stored frozen for many years; When a new cell line is obtained, and a new cell bank is prepared for storage; Established cell lines with continuous growth over 10 passages; When the performance of the cell line is unstable or the results are different from expectations; When performing chimera after allogeneic cell transplantation. KMD Bioscience's technical experts can provide customers with accurate and fast cell STR identification services to ensure the quality of cell lines.

STR Analysis for Unit Validation:

Short tandem repeat (STR) analysis is one of the more extensive methods in molecular biology. Previously, it was only used as an extremely valuable tool for human DNA identification. The same principle can be used to identify cell lines: compare specific sites on DNA from existing or raw samples to see if the cell line we are using is correct.

Short tandem repeats (STRs) are repeats of DNA, typically 2-6 base pairs in length, that act as sequences consisting of 2 to 13 nucleotides that repeat hundreds of times in a row on a DNA strand. Using STR analysis, a specific number of replicate cells can be measured, which is key to validating different types of cell lines.

Applications of STR Analysis:

In addition to its use in cell identification and paternity testing, STR analysis can be used in the following areas.

--Track and confirm tissue sources and detect contamination

STR analysis provides a quick and easy way to compare sample tissue and reference tissue to determine the identity of a sample. Similarly, STR analysis can be used to detect sample contamination and can detect trace amounts of contaminated cells or tissues.

--Detection of maternal cell contamination and fetal aneuploidy

STR analysis can help ensure that prenatal fetal samples are not contaminated with maternal cells, and it can detect fetal chromosomal abnormalities such as trisomy and other aneuploidies.

--Cancer research

Cancer researchers can track genetic changes by examining STR sites, detect duplication, deletions or other mutations in DNA, and use this information to identify key chromosomal regions that are altered during the onset.
