ANGTL4 (Gene ID:51129) belongs to the family of angiopoietin-like proteins, which are secreted glycoproteins also known as fasting-induced adipokines. They are also referred to as pp1158, PGAR, ARP4, HFARP, FIAF, and NL2. These proteins are highly expressed in adipose tissue. The human ANGTL4 gene encodes a protein containing 406 amino acids, with a molecular weight of approximately 45.21 kDa. It contains three main conserved structural domains: the C-terminal fibrinogen-like structural domain and the N-terminal signaling peptide, coiled-coil structural domain. During hypoxia, the expression of ANGTL4 is upregulated in endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes. ANGTL4 not only participates in the regulation of fat and glucose metabolism, but also related to angiogenesis. Studies have shown that ANGTL4 is closely related to the development of metabolic diseases and adipose-derived ANGTL4 significantly contributes to lipid metabolism in adipose tissue. Therefore, ANGTL4 can also be used as a target for the new generation of lipid-lowering drugs. Moreover, ANGTL4 exerts significant influence on tumor invasion, intestinal microecology regulation, fracture healing, tendon cell proliferation, as well as adhesion and migration.
