CD152 (Gene ID:1493), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, is a leukocyte differentiation antigen also known as cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), It is normally expressed in activated T cells but not in resting T cells. CD152 encodes a protein containing 223 amino acids, which contains the extracellular V structural domain, a transmembrane structural domain, and a cytoplasmic tail. Available evidence suggests that CD152 is able to recruit phosphatases for the T cell receptor (TCR), thereby attenuating signaling. Moreover, CD152 has been shown to enhance the killing of regulatory T cells by natural killer cells, thereby reducing immunosuppression. Therefore, CD152 can play a role in the study of autoimmune diseases such as autoimmune thyroid disease and multiple sclerosis.
