5T4 (Gene ID:7162) is a glycoprotein found mainly in embryonic trophoblast cells, also known as trophoblast glycoprotein, oncoprotein 5T4, Wnt activation inhibitory factor 1, WAIF1, TPBG, and M6P1. It is expressed mainly in a variety of trophoblast cells during embryonic developmental stages and in a variety of tumor cells. Encoded by the human 5T4 gene, this protein consists of 420 amino acids with a molecular weight of 46.03 kDa and comprises an extracellular domain, transmembrane region and cytoplasmic tail. Studies have shown that 5T4 effectively impedes both the classical Wnt/β-catenin pathway and the non-classical Wnt signaling pathway. And due to its elevated expression in tumors coupled with low expression levels in normal adult tissues, targeting 5T4 has become a focal point for several anti-cancer drugs in clinical development.
