Tie-2, also known as TEK (tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin-like and epidermal growth factor homology structural domain 2) (Gene ID:7010), encodes a receptor protein expressed predominantly on endothelial cells lining blood vessels. Tie-2 plays a key role in angiogenesis, the process of forming new blood vessels, and vascular homeostasis. It is considered to be a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in vascular development.
